Job Description

At River Financial we have made a commitment to building financial solutions that power a radically more transparent and efficient global economic system made possible by Bitcoin. To that end, we have built leading Bitcoin brokerage and custody products to keep our clients ahead of the curve. We are looking for people to help build the future of the Bitcoin economy at River Financial.

When hiring, we look for candidates who demonstrate the ability to think clearly, communicate effectively, and get things done. We value people who are able to think and build for the future without forgetting the lessons of the past.

We are looking for an experienced accounting professional to support and streamline our internal accounting operations. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for overseeing all Accounts Payable, managing outbound wires, collaborating with senior leadership to manage company budgets and cash flow, and supporting the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date accounting records and reporting.

We are looking for a candidate focused on systemization and automation, with high attention to detail on all money flows. This role will report directly to River’s Director of Accounting. The role includes significant cross-functional collaboration, including working closely with FinOps, and Engineering and Product teams to ensure new products are built within an appropriate accounting framework.

What you will be doing

  • Manage and improve accounting processes for River’s primary Bitcoin investing products
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to develop accounting processes, automations, and internal controls to support the production of timely and accurate monthly financial reporting
  • Maintain and manage accounts payable operations on a daily basis
  • Partner with accounting consultants to maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including general ledger entries
  • Conduct data analysis and partner with the Director of Accounting to provide financial insights to company leadership
  • Assist in the preparation of tax filings and other regulatory reports
  • Work closely with the Financial Operations team to prepare monthly reporting for Accounting, support annual 1099 reporting, and assist with payments processing
  • Be the key point of contact for the auditors during the annual financial statement audit and ad hoc regulatory audits, taking ownership of the relationship and ensuring auditors have the information and support needed to complete the audit efficiently and on time
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements; identify opportunities to streamline the preparation and review process
  • Drive the semi-annual budgeting process, working directly with department heads
  • Work closely with People Ops to maintain and communicate reimbursement and expense policies
  • Work with the Director of Accounting to develop and implement robust Bitcoin reconciliation procedures

What we look for in you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Industry experience in financial services, fintech, broker-dealer, banking, or exchange strongly preferred
  • CPA in good standing is strongly preferred
  • 3+ years of relevant accounting, audit, and/or finance experience
  • Interest in and excitement for Bitcoin. Cryptocurrency experience is preferred but not required
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial accounting fundamentals
  • Collaborative, innovative, flexible, and adept at building relationships across the organization
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deliverables in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Proven track record of working with large data sets, and using spreadsheet software to streamline workflows and improve productivity
  • Ability and eagerness to operate in ambiguity. One of the exciting and challenging aspects of Bitcoin is that accounting guidance is not fully clear. The ideal candidate will see this as an opportunity to think critically and strengthen our accounting practices

Salary and benefits

  • Salary range is $105,000 - $140,000 dependent on experience
  • Benefits include
    • Competitive compensation and equity
    • Fully remote option policy, with offices in San Francisco, Columbus OH, and NYC
